Chugge Khan & Rajasthan Josh

Music only Music

Chugge Khan is an internationally acclaimed, charismatic virtuoso musician, singer, composer, arranger and teacher, who was born and lives in the Thar Desert in North West India.

Chugge Khan & Rajasthan Josh, which he founded in 2009, are known for inspiring concerts that touch the soul with songs of love, of life, of love of God. Their music, devoted to all gods encompasses Sufi Qawwali, Hindu Bhajans, Sindhi Qalam, Punjabi melodies, Rajasthani Folk and contemporary fusion. As the vocals soar and weave above the rhythm of the percussion, hearts are stirred, irresistibly charmed and moved to dance by these “Manganiyar Maestros and Heart Thieves”.

Manganiyars are the traditional minstrels of Rajasthan, a moslem caste who for centuries traversed the desert playing for Maharajas, Moghuls, and rich landowners and at weddings, feasts and funerals.

All group members are accomplished and versatile musicians, adept in fusion and bridging musical cultures. Songs and skills are learned from an early age and passed on to each generation. They perform at events large and small, and are constantly called on to take part in international world music and collaborative events.

Chugge has played with a wide range of international artists in a dizzying number of countries at a myriad Festivals: Womad, Womex, Fez Sacred Music, Jerusalem Sacred Festival, Alchemy, Flamenco – India (Spain), India on the Nile etc. playing with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Baba Maal, Toumani Diabate, Susheela Raman, Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, Natacha Atlas, Dub Colossus, Transglobal Underground, and many more.

Chugge Khan & Rajasthan Josh perform with passion and above all devotion to music. See them at ARMA on Friday, March 24. Doors open 6:30pm.
