Jack Stafford

Ayurvedic Troubadour

Jack is a travelling troubadour. His tours have taken him to over 40 countries, and he has played over 700 concerts while collaborating with dozens of amazing musicians from around the globe. He now has a discography of 400+ folk songs about the people and places he has encountered and has recorded 8 studio albums.

Recently graduated as an Ayurvedic practitioner, he is now using his music to help promote the Vedic way of living.

His new album Ashtanga Hiridyam (https://jackstafford.org/ashtanga-hridaya) takes the teachings of Ayurveda and updates the medium (but not the message) for the modern age.

Ashtanga Hridayam is an ancient lifestyle manual and medical text that sums up the teachings of Ayurveda, the Indian Science of Life. It was written by Vagbhata, a Vedic doctor from Kashmir in about the 6th century AD. Vagbhata himself found the ancient texts of Ayurveda very elaborate and difficult to study. He collected and present their essence in 7120 easily understood Sanskrit verses (Sutras) that could be memorized.

In a much lesser way, Jack Stafford is repeating what Vagbhata did, by reformatting the knowledge passed on from the great sages.
