Raphael Melo

Alignment Vinyasa Yoga

Brazil

Raphael Melo, originally from Brazil, grew up in a house of devotion learning concepts of the yogic philosophy in his daily life since childhood, gently introduced by his mother Rosana Melo. At the age of 7 he started to attend kids yoga classes along with his brother, beginning to sprout the seed of the practice into his heart. In 2006, he took his first yoga teacher training with the well-known Brazilian teacher Anderson Allegro, and since then began to teach. In 2010, Raphael moved to Shanghai where he continued to teach yoga for over four years at Y+ Yoga center, one of the most respected yoga studios in China. He used that time to travel and teach more broadly across the country, as well as the Asian region. It is Raphael’s approach to teach the idea of “integration” and through this, helping students find balance in their lives and cultivate mindfulness. He blends proper alignment and Vinyasa, predominantly integrating the traditions of Ashtanga Vinyasa and Iyengar Yoga, along with pranayama, meditation, kirtan and Indian philosophies - watered with sense of humor and love. In 2013 he had a chance to meet the incomparable Richard Freeman, who has most significantly influenced his approach to yoga, and ever since, has annually studied with him. Complementary to yoga Raphael also studies the teachings of the Buddha and Sanskrit. After leaving China and spending some time in NY, Raphael currently travels and teaches internationally leading classes, workshops, immersion, retreats and teacher trainings.
