Tuju Taksu - Contemporary Mask Dance Theatre

Tuju Taksu is a unique performance troupe that uses highly original masks to explore the magical realm of archetype and myth.
Tuju Taksu means "aiming for"  "Taksu" - a divine spirit that can sometimes manifest through art.  The masks were created by master mask maker Ida Bagus Oka of Mas, Bali, in collaboration with Maru Matthaei, founder and director of Tuju Taksu.  Over many years they have created an extraordinary set of original masks, which inspire the work of this innovative performance theater.  Dancers from many countries have participated in and contributed to the creation of new works, and as each performer brings the mask to life in their own way, each performance is different.  They have found that the masks communicate in ways that transcend cultural boundaries, and that evoking the spirit of the mask can awaken that essence in performer and audience alike. Tuju Taksu has performed internationally since    1995.

Performers:  Maru Matthaei, William Witter, I Nyoman Sura, Oded Carmi, Ida Bagus Putu Darmayasa and Ni Putu Diah Yeti Mahayani.
