Love BaliSpirit – Meet the Masters: Tara Judelle, Anusara and Embodied Flow, USA
For over 26 years Tara has experimented with all forms of movement flow, from dance to Tai Chi, to movement improvisation and ultimately yoga. An English degree from Barnard College, post-graduate studies in theatre directing and a foray into film writing and directing brought her finally to the study of yoga and meditation. Certified in the Anusara method, Tara has taught yoga extensively, both nationally and internationally, for 12 years. She has been inspired by the Body Mind Centering works of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and has studied and taught with Carlos Pomeda and Sally Kempton. For the last 4 years she has been a featured teacher as part of the YogaGlo team allowing the yoga conversation to stream around the globe.
I’m headed to Bali because… I love this festival!
Yoga is… simply the remembrance of what we already always are.
If I could be on the cover of any magazine… I’d pick Discovery Magazine – How Fractal Geometry and group mind are innovating the direction of yoga.
My first contact with yoga was… I saw someone practicing yoga in a rehearsal hall in drama school, she gave me a book with stick figures and I started practicing in my room.
Today I work… in this field as my contract to be a better person. It is what keeps me real. The only thing I seek to do is be authentic, and to flow as lovingly and naturally as forms in nature do.
I’m offering… a combination of the alignment I’ve drawn from Anusara Yoga and the brilliant embodied sense I’ve incorporated from Body Mind Centering with the philosophy of Tantra, specifically Kashmir Shaivism
This I know… We have come far from our natural order, into one that has cloaked a bit the natural rhythm of things. When we go back to source, origin or ground, we naturally start to embark on a journey that seeks wholeness and wellness.
My first job… was cleaning up college students apartments after they moved out of them – truly disgusting!
My last job… before becoming a full time yoga teacher in 2001 was writing, directing and producing a feature film.
If I wasn’t a yoga teacher… I would be a full time writer.
When the going gets tough…love and laughter!
It’s a secret, but I love…African Dance
If I could have a superpower I’d pick… healing others
Yoga still hasn’t… made me stop cussing.
