Cheri Rae Russell
“Cheri Rae is a dynamic instructor, super smart, friendly, swears like a trucker and is very passionate about yoga. She genuinely wants you to enjoy yoga and practice it safely.”
As a young woman, a very determined and disciplined Cheri Rae worked her way to becoming a champion professional ice skater. At the age of 17, however, she critically injured her knee landing a jump. It was Yoga that rehabilitated her, and from there she found her life’s passion.
She loved Yoga so much that left on an international journey to pursue it, studying directly with teachers such as Pattabhi Jois, Frank White and others. In her odyssey, she taught everywhere she stopped — India, Thailand and Indonesia. It was during this time that Cheri Rae began the healing process from the death of her mother, whom she adored: “I had nowhere to go but within.”
After her Asia trip, Cheri Rae came back to America to be with her brother and his children. Feeling blessed to be home as an Auntie, Cheri Rae touched down in her native country… but it didn’t feel like home to her. Something was different.
It was at this time that Cheri Rae met her romantic partner Gabe and together they helped bring Cheri’s vision of Peace Yoga Gallery to fruition. Peace Yoga Gallery is a 4,000-square foot oasis of peace in downtown Los Angeles, with programs in yoga, a raw food kitchen, Healing, Art and amazing weekly events. Cheri Rae lives to help each that steps foot inside her studio discover their breath and inner peace.
Peace Yoga helps busy Los Angeleans who think they don’t have enough time to breathe, to find their breath and slow down. As Cheri says: “I know pain, I know what it feels like. When people walk into my studio, I can see it in their faces and I know what people are going through.”
Cheri Rae’s yoga class is not your mother’s class. She challenges, but doesn’t force; she supports but doesn’t allow you to be mediocre. Cheri’s teaching style will make you laugh with delight, feel the burn and leave you with new insights into yourself and the world around you.
