Esak Garcia has been a yoga devotee for 25 years. He is the creator of the e84 Teacher Training Diploma Program, a two year training during which students study the 84 asana sequence that comes from Calcutta, India and was taught by Bishnu Ghosh, brother of Paramahansa Yogananda. The 84 is the sequence from which the 26&2 sequence, Bikram Yoga, was derived and it provides the foundation for many versions of hot yoga practice today.
In addition to e84 trainings, he leads quarterly Jedi Trainings, that guide experienced yogis and athletes into deeper asanas. In Jedi training Esak coaches yogis to harness the will and effort, balanced equally with surrender, to access deeper backbends. Once the spine starts to release and open, the entire body follows and becomes more flexible.
Esak became interested in Yoga as a high school athlete at the age of 17. He used yoga to condition himself to play baseball and American football. Over the past 10 years his greatest source of yogic insight and inspiration comes from being a student of the Institute of Ancient Mysteries with whom he studies Jnana yoga, Universal Law and Egyptian Mysticism.
Born and reared in Boulder, Colorado Esak has also lived in New Haven, Conecticut, in São José Dos Campos and Salvador, Brazil, in California’s Bay area, and as a small child, in Acapulco, Mexico. His family has run a hot yoga studio in Boulder, Colorado since 1994. Esak graduated valedictorian from Boulder High School, then studied Political Science and philosophy at Yale University. He studied the Afro-Brazilian martial art of Capoeira for over 10 years and has continuously practiced Hot Yoga since 1994.
