Love At First Sight.

Have you ever come face to face with an Indian Goddess? I have. And her name is Rukmini. Perhaps you were thinking of Sarasvati or Laksmi?

However, their essence is in the ether. Rukmini performed LIVE on the ARMA stage in Ubud, Bali on Friday night.

The gorgeous Rukmini Vijayakumar presented a wonderful 30 minute performance of classical Indian dances to the enthusiastic crowd. Her ritually inspired performance provided a welcome respite from the boom boom boom of the evenings previous acts. So riveting was her presence she literally danced her way into our hearts!

Prior to each dance Rukmini explained the story behind each of the dances which originate from the sacred Hindu texts.

“Dance is my Yoga and my way to connect with spirit and also to be with myself,” revealed the 28 year old dancer who has performed in numerous Indian Bollywood movies. “The relationship between dance and Yoga is inseparable and co existing – like inhalation and exhalation.”

Dynamic and fluid movements combined along with the grace of a butterfly, Rukmini’s body is an extraordinarily fined tuned vehicle.

Her smiling face and big dark eyes emanated such joy, it was so obvious she was enjoying herself. With her wonderful array of facial expressions that helped convey the stories of the dances, at times it seemed like she was in a silent dialogue with the divine.

Rukmini’s ravishing beauty and grace of presence delivered a unique serenity to evening that held the audience spellbound. I found the performance at times highly emotional and for me it was the highlight of the night.
